The Continuing Tuesday Night Adventures
Last week, the heroes made their way to the dungeon at Starfall Forest. It was their first time out and about, and they made quick work of the first level of the dungeon. We packed things up and just pulled everything out last night. The heroes were in for a bit of a surprise when the second level of the dungeon opened up.
The heroes found themselves in the Barracks dungeon, lead by a master sorcerer with six extra wounds and Command 1. The entrance was located down a long corridor that opened up into a larger room with a pair of tables in it. I dropped in six skeletons and two more sorcerers to go along with the leader of the level and the heroes were off and running.
I don't recall exactly how they split up, but I think Battlemage Jaes went back to town to heal along with Mok. That would have left Silhouette and the big orc fighter to deal with the monsters right away.
The first thing I did was to spawn a beastman war party, and dropped a master beastman close enough to command the skeletons at the front of the line. Those skeletons moved into range and up on a table and began firing down upon the heroes. At +2 damage and +2 range (table and command), they started doing a terrible amount of damage to the heroes. It also helps that they had Pierce 1 to help get through their armor. They killed off one of the heroes pretty quickly, and I plugged up the end of the hallway with more skeletons and beastmen and brought the sorcerers to the rear to start getting their shots in.
Things looked pretty grim for the heroes. They tried to battle back, but the seemingly endless supply of monsters (I spawned two more sorcerers on the third turn), and command from the dungeon leader (having lost the master beastman) allowed me to kill of three of them.
They eventually broke through the line, and started cleaning up the sorcerers, but Silhouette panicked and ran back to the glyph to go back to town and leave the other heroes behind. At this point, they were starting to cover all of the corners thanks to breaking through the line and getting Boggs further into the level, so spawning monsters would be problematic.
The heroes managed to kill the dungeon leader, and the remaining skeletons and sorcerers became much less effective, especially after losing the tables to get elevated upon. I managed to kill another hero somewhere in this mess, and totaled up 13 points for the level. Silhouette then came running back in to open the treasure, which yielded two copper treasures for each hero. I spawned spiders as they were continuing through the level to keep them moving, but that was basically it.
Overall, I came out with 13 XP to the heroes 4 XP for the level, which puts me right back into the game. Looks like I'll have to be even more lethal in the coming dungeons.
