Announcing MumfordCon 2011

You knew it was coming, but did you realize it was already this close? The second annual Plover gaming convention, Mumford Con, will be starting up this coming February. Mark your calendars, because February 11th is the official start of the greatest gaming convention in Plover!

That’s right, MumfordCon ’11 will be starting at noon on February 11th.

Our first convention was successful, with a whole weekend of great gaming and great stories. Who can forget the time Paul saved humanity on a reroll, or when he double crossed his secret Cylon partner and tossed him out an airlock? How much fun did the adventurers have when they opened doors to not one, but two completely overpowered giants? Did you know Through the Ages was played more than once, even though it’s a four hour game?

You can be a part of this! You just have to get to MumfordCon ’11 on February 11th.

Even better, this year, there will be door prizes that will be given away. All you have to do is show up, and you’ll be eligible to win all sorts of fabulous prizes!

Now, those of you in the know, the doors for MumfordCon unofficially open early on February 10th at 6pm. If you want to get to the convention early to play some games or make a claim on a bed, the doors will be open at 6pm on Thursday, February 10th. Last year, a few of us played a handful of games that evening before going to be way too late.

The convention will run until noon on February 13th, at which point I will start playing a new game which my daughter is very fond of; we call it “Clean Up”. You are more than welcome to stay past that time, but only if you clean something up.

Like card games? Come to Mumford Con!

Did you grow up playing War, Go Fish, King's Corner and the like? Ever try out Euchre or Sheepshead? Dabble with Magic? I've got a game for you to try out and it's called Dominion.

This is the future of card games. Well, at least card games that you have to shell some money out for. The game is quick, and different every single time. There is a theme packed in there, something about building a medieval kingdom, but it doesn't matter. This is one of those games we'll be playing as a filler since you can knock it out in about 30 minutes. Then again, you may want to play it over and over again and turn it into a 3 hour session.

Want to run a power plant? Come to Mumford Con!

Yeah, running a power plant sounds pretty lame. How about running the entire grid? There's this little game called Power Grid that will be showing up at Mumford Con, and it is one of the best games that has ever been made. The object of Power Grid is to supply power to cities by purchasing power plants, building a network, and buying resources. It rolls a fluctuating commodities market and auctioning mechanic all into one really well put together mechanic. It plays great with four or more players. So, if you want to try out a real board game, this is one you'll want to start with.

Like Battlestar? Come to Mumford Con!

Not sure if you should be coming to the Mumfordland Gaming Convention 2010? Let me tell you this, if you're a fan of a little show called Battlestar Galactica you're in luck. We've got the fantastic Battlestar Galactica board game, and we will be playing it during the convention. This game captures the desperation and paranoia that was ever present in the fleet. You don't know who to trust, because any of your supposed human allies could be a frakkin' toaster. Then again, perhaps wiping out humanity sounds pretty good after all.

This is a cooperative game with hidden traitors. It's best with five, but also quite fun with four or six. If you're interested in giving this a try I'm sure you'll find plenty of players who would want to join in.
